Workshop on Introduction to Power BI and Dataset
The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Selvam College of Technology (Autonomous), in association with IQAC and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Introduction to Power BI and Dataset” on 04.07.2026 from 09.30 a.m. to 03.30 p.m. in physical mode for the II Year Artificial Intelligence and Data Science students. The workshop aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of Business Intelligence, data visualization, and dataset handling using Microsoft Power BI, enabling them to develop practical analytical skills required in today’s data-driven industries.
The session was delivered by Mr. Mohamed Azarudeen, Trainer, WeTouch Technology, Coimbatore, who shared his expertise on data analytics and visualization techniques. The workshop began with an introduction to Business Intelligence concepts, the importance of data-driven decision-making, and the role of Power BI in transforming raw data into meaningful insights. Students were guided through the installation and interface of Power BI Desktop, followed by demonstrations on importing datasets from multiple sources, cleaning and transforming data using Power Query, and creating data models.
The resource person further demonstrated the creation of interactive dashboards using charts, tables, slicers, and filters. Participants learned how to generate reports, apply visualization best practices, and interpret business data effectively. Hands-on exercises enabled students to work with sample datasets and design dashboards that represented sales trends, customer analysis, and performance metrics. The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged students to actively participate by asking questions and implementing the demonstrated concepts in real time.
The workshop significantly enhanced the students’ understanding of Business Intelligence tools and practical data visualization techniques. Participants gained confidence in using Power BI for data analysis and reporting, which will be beneficial for academic projects, internships, and future career opportunities in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence. The Department expressed its gratitude to the resource person for delivering an informative and engaging session and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students, making the workshop a successful learning experience.
