Awareness Program on Vehicular Emissions and Environmental Conservation

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Selvam College of Technology, organized an Awareness Program on “Vehicular Emissions and Environmental Conservation” for second-year B.E. Mechanical Engineering students. The programme was conducted by Dr. J. Hemalatha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. A total of 60 students actively participated in the session. The resource person explained the major sources of vehicular emissions and their harmful effects on air quality, human health, and the environment. Students gained knowledge about pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM). The session highlighted the importance of emission control technologies, regular vehicle maintenance, and adherence to emission standards. The role of alternative fuels, electric vehicles, and sustainable transportation in reducing environmental pollution was also discussed. Students were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute to environmental conservation through responsible engineering solutions. The interactive session enhanced environmental awareness and motivated students to promote sustainable mobility. Overall, the programme was highly informative, creating awareness about the importance of reducing vehicular emissions and protecting the environment.
