Hands-on Training on Setting Out of Buildings and Road Alignments
The Department of Civil Engineering organized a No Book Day event titled “Hands-on Training on Setting Out of Buildings and Road Alignments” on 18.07.2026 for II, III, and IV Year Civil Engineering students. The programme was conducted in the Surveying Laboratory to provide practical exposure to building layout and road alignment techniques used in construction projects. Students gained hands-on experience in setting out centre lines, foundation layouts, and road alignments using surveying instruments. The training emphasized accurate measurement, field procedures, and the importance of precision in civil engineering works. The sessions were conducted by Ms. S. Devaki, Assistant Professor, and Mr. D. Kavaskar, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Selvam College of Technology, Namakkal. The resource persons demonstrated standard surveying practices and guided students through practical field exercises. The programme enhanced students’ technical knowledge, surveying skills, teamwork, and confidence in executing field layout activities. The event served as a valuable learning experience by strengthening their practical understanding and preparing them for real-world civil engineering projects.
