Beyond the Lab Coat: Career Paths in Biotechnology

A webinar titled “Beyond the Lab Coat: Career Paths in Biotechnology” was conducted by Mr.P.Gowtham, M.Tech., Ph.D., Research Scholar, Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, on 04.07.2026 at Mechanical Seminar Hall. The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about diverse career opportunities in biotechnology beyond traditional laboratory roles.

The resource person elaborated on various career paths available in biotechnology, including roles in research and development, regulatory affairs, clinical research, bioinformatics, industrial applications, and interdisciplinary fields such as nanotechnology. Emphasis was placed on skill development, higher education opportunities, and the importance of adapting to emerging trends in science and technology.

The webinar was highly informative and interactive, with real-time examples and insights from the speaker’s academic and research experience. Students actively participated in the session by asking questions and engaging in discussions regarding career planning and future prospects.

A total of 150 students participated in the webinar and benefited from the programme.

The session provided valuable guidance on exploring non-conventional career options and helped students understand the skills and competencies required to succeed in the biotechnology sector. It also motivated students to broaden their career perspectives and prepare for diverse professional roles.

At the end of the webinar, students gained a clear understanding of various career pathways in biotechnology and the importance of continuous learning and skill enhancement. The programme significantly contributed to improving students’ awareness of career opportunities and professional growth in the field of biotechnology.
