Value Added Course on “Clinical Documentation and Medical Coding Practices” (VCBT007)
A session on “Clinical Documentation and Medical Coding Practices (VCBT007)” was conducted by Mr. S. Majoj, Head, Department of Training, Thought flows Training Academy, Coimbatore from 29.04.2026 to 06.05.2026. The programme was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, BIOSEL Association, Selvam College of Technology, with the objective of enhancing students’ knowledge in clinical documentation and medical coding practices relevant to healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
The resource person explained the fundamental concepts of clinical documentation, including the importance of accurate patient records, medical terminology, and healthcare data management. He also elaborated on medical coding systems such as ICD and CPT, and their role in healthcare billing, insurance claims, and hospital administration.
Emphasis was placed on the significance of accuracy, compliance with healthcare regulations, and maintaining confidentiality in medical records. The session also covered real-time examples of coding procedures and common errors in documentation, helping students understand practical challenges in the field.
The lecture was highly interactive and informative. Students actively participated by asking questions and engaging in discussions, which enhanced their understanding of the subject.
A total of 50 students participated in the session and benefited from the programme.
At the end of the session, students gained a clear understanding of clinical documentation standards and medical coding practices. The programme enhanced their awareness of healthcare data management and strengthened their skills relevant to career opportunities in medical coding and clinical research domains.
