Value Added Course on “Data Analytics”
Selvam College of Technology, an autonomous institution accredited with an “A” Grade by NAAC, continues its commitment to providing quality-driven and skill-based training programs that prepare students for rapidly evolving industry demands. In line with this vision, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering successfully conducted a five-day Value Added Course (30 hours) on Data Analytics from 11 November 2025 to 15 November 2025.
The program was organized in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), focusing on enhancing students’ technical proficiency in mobile application development—one of the most dynamic and in-demand sectors of the technology industry.
The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. S. Babu, Chairman, Selvam Educational Institutions, in the esteemed presence of Dr. B. Kaviethra Nandhini, Secretary, Selvam Educational Institutions, and Mr. M. Karthik, Executive Director, Selvam College of Technology.
Dr. S. Ramabalan, Principal, addressed the students and emphasized the importance of holistic development in engineering education. Mrs. R. Bhuvaneswari, Head, Department of CSE, welcomed the gathering, and Mrs. R.Tamilselvi, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, served as the Course Coordinator.
Technical Sessions and Training
The resource person, Mr. G.Yogeshwaran, Technical Lead and Corporate Trainer, delivered comprehensive training sessions covering:
- Fundamentals of Data Analytics
- Data preprocessing and cleaning
- Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)
- Statistical methods for data-driven insights
- Introduction to Python/R for analytics
- Hands-on exercises using real-world datasets
- Basics of data visualization and dashboard creation
The sessions combined theoretical learning with practical activities, enabling students to develop a strong foundation in data handling, analysis, and interpretation.
Student Participation and Outcome
Approximately 60 Third-year CSE students participated in the course. The course witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who engaged actively in coding tasks, data exploration activities, and analytical problem-solving sessions. Participants expressed that the training significantly improved their confidence and understanding of the tools and workflows used in modern data analytics.
The faculty members of the CSE Department extended continuous support throughout the program, ensuring a productive and resourceful learning environment.
