Workshop on “Farming without soil” Held at Selvam College of Technology
Selvam College of Technology, the Department of Biotechnology, successfully organized a Workshop on “Farming without soil”. The program was conducted to create awareness and enhance students’ practical knowledge on modern agricultural techniques such as hydroponics, aeroponics, and smart farming practices.
The training session was handled by the resource person, Dr.K.Devi & Ms.T.V.JananiAssistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Selvam College of Technology, who provided in-depth technical guidance and practical demonstrations the students through the complete process. The session focused on different types of soil-less cultivation systems, nutrient solutions, plant growth requirements, and environmental control techniques. Emphasis was given to the role of technology and automation in monitoring parameters such as temperature, humidity, nutrient levels, and light intensity for efficient plant growth.
During the interactive and hands-on session, students actively participated in understanding the setup, operation, and maintenance of farming-without-soil systems. The workshop also highlighted the scope of these techniques in addressing food security, reducing land dependency, and supporting sustainable farming practices.
The program was highly informative and beneficial, providing students with valuable exposure to innovative agricultural technologies and real-world applications. A total of 60 participants actively took part and benefited from the workshop.
