Outreach Programme on “Promoting Health and Nutrition”
The Department of Biotechnology, Selvam College of Technology, successfully organized an Outreach Programme on “Promoting Health and Nutrition” with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of balanced diet, healthy lifestyle practices, and preventive healthcare among the kothari sugars and chemicals pvt ltd worker community on 28.02.2026.
The programme was conducted as part of the department’s extension activities to promote social responsibility and community engagement. The event aimed to educate participants on the significance of proper nutrition, personal hygiene, and healthy food habits for maintaining overall well-being.
During the programme, faculty members and student volunteers delivered informative sessions on topics such as balanced diet, macronutrients and micronutrients, importance of vitamins and minerals, role of hydration, and prevention of lifestyle-related diseases. Special emphasis was given to nutrition for children, adolescents, pregnant women, and elderly people.
The outreach activity included interactive demonstrations on healthy food preparation, awareness about junk food consumption, reading food labels, and understanding nutritional deficiencies such as anemia, protein-energy malnutrition, and vitamin deficiencies. Participants were also educated about the importance of regular physical activity, sanitation, and safe drinking water.
Pamphlets containing dietary guidelines and nutritional tips were distributed to the beneficiaries. The programme encouraged active participation through question-and-answer sessions, ensuring better understanding and knowledge dissemination among the attendees.
The Outreach Programme on “Promoting Health and Nutrition” was highly informative and impactful. It enhanced community awareness regarding health management and preventive nutrition practices. The programme successfully strengthened the bond between the institution and society while promoting the importance of health and well-being. A total of 120 beneficiaries actively participated in and benefited from the outreach programme.
