Industrial Visit on “Kothari sugar mill” Held at Selvam College of Technology
Selvam College of Technology, The Department of Biotechnology, Selvam College of Technology, successfully organized an industrial visit to Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited, Trichy, on 28.02.2026 to provide students with practical exposure to industrial processes involved in sugar manufacturing and allied biotechnological applications.
The visit was arranged with the objective of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial practices. During the visit, students were guided by the technical experts and plant supervisors of the organization, who provided detailed explanations about the complete sugar production process.
The session covered various stages of sugar manufacturing, including sugarcane crushing, juice extraction, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, and packaging. Students were also introduced to by-product management processes such as molasses utilization, bagasse-based power generation, and effluent treatment systems. Special emphasis was given to quality control measures, fermentation processes, waste management techniques, and environmental safety practices followed in the industry.
During the interactive session, students actively engaged with industry professionals, clarified their doubts regarding large-scale production, process optimization, and industrial safety standards. The visit provided valuable insights into real-time industrial operations, automation systems, and sustainable production practices.
The industrial visit was highly informative and beneficial, enabling students to understand the practical implementation of biotechnology and biochemical engineering concepts in the sugar industry. The program enhanced their knowledge of industrial workflow, process efficiency, and environmental management practices. A total of 100 students actively participated in and benefited from the industrial visit.
