Hands-On Training on “Medical Coding- Beginners Level
Selvam College of Technology, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, successfully organised a hands-on training program on “Medical Coding- Beginners Level” on 28.2.2026. The training session was handled by the resource person, Ms. M. Anbarasi, B.E., Senior Medical Coder, Medingers Healthcare, Erode. The Hands-On Training session focused on the fundamentals of Medical Coding – Beginners Level, including introduction to healthcare documentation, basic medical terminology, anatomy and physiology review, and an overview of coding systems such as World Health Organization-developed ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. Students were trained in interpreting physician notes, identifying diagnoses and procedures, and assigning appropriate codes using sample case sheets. Participants actively engaged in practical exercises, including chart review, code selection, and error identification under expert guidance. Real-time coding scenarios, common beginner mistakes, and basic compliance guidelines were also discussed to enhance accuracy and confidence. The program was highly insightful and approximately 105 students benefited from the session.
