Hands on training on “Isolation of DNA” Held at Selvam College of Technology
Selvam College of Technology, the Department of Biotechnology, successfully organized Hands on training on “Isolation of DNA”. The program was conducted to to enhance students’ practical knowledge and laboratory skills in molecular biology techniques.
The training session was handled by the resource person, Dr.M.Thenmozhi&HOD & Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Selvam College of Technology, who provided in-depth technical guidance and practical demonstrations the students through the complete process. The resource persons provided detailed theoretical explanations along with step-by-step practical demonstrations, guiding students through the complete DNA isolation procedure.
The session focused on the principles of DNA extraction, including cell lysis, removal of proteins and contaminants, DNA precipitation, and purification techniques. Students were introduced to various methods of DNA isolation from plant and microbial samples. Emphasis was placed on laboratory safety, proper handling of chemicals, centrifugation techniques, and maintaining sterile conditions during the experiment.
During the interactive hands-on session, students actively performed the DNA isolation procedure under expert guidance. They gained practical exposure to the use of laboratory equipment such as micropipettes, centrifuges, water baths, and gel electrophoresis apparatus for DNA analysis and visualization.
The training also highlighted the importance of DNA isolation in biotechnology applications such as genetic engineering, molecular diagnostics, forensic analysis, and research in life sciences.
The program was highly informative and beneficial, providing students with valuable practical exposure to fundamental molecular biology techniques and real-world laboratory applications. A total of 54 participants actively took part and benefitted
