Hands on training on Auto Cad and Basics of Site Supervisionare held atSelvam College of Technology
The Department of Science and Humanities, Selvam College of Technology, successfully organized a combined workshop on “Basics of AutoCAD and Site Supervision” for students during the academic year 2025–2026.
The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with fundamental knowledge in computer-aided design and practical site management skills. The program aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world construction practices by equipping students with both technical drafting skills and on-site supervisory knowledge.
The session on Basics of AutoCAD was handled by Mr. S. Gowtham, AutoCAD Designer, Indian Blueprint Architectural and Design Company. He introduced students to the AutoCAD interface and explained essential drawing and modification commands such as Line, Circle, Rectangle, Trim, Extend, Move, Copy, and Dimensioning. The session also covered layers, text annotations, layout settings, and basic plotting techniques. Through practical demonstrations, students gained hands-on experience in preparing simple architectural and engineering drawings.
The session on Basics of Site Supervision was conducted by Mr. Gridharan R., 2D and 3D Designer, Design Plus. He provided valuable insights into the responsibilities of a site supervisor, including site layout planning, material management, quality control, safety practices, and work scheduling. He emphasized the importance of reading construction drawings accurately and maintaining proper coordination between architects, engineers, contractors, and workers at the construction site.
Special emphasis was given to understanding the connection between design and execution. Students learned how accurate AutoCAD drawings support effective site supervision and how proper monitoring ensures quality construction. Real-time examples from industry projects were shared to help students understand practical challenges and professional expectations.
The interactive and practical-oriented sessions enhanced students’ technical competence, awareness of construction standards, and readiness to handle real-world responsibilities. The workshop proved to be highly informative and beneficial, providing valuable exposure to both design and site management aspects of the construction field.
The active participation of 24 students and enthusiasm of the students contributed to making the program a grand success.
