Guest Lecture on Mathematical Transforms and their Role in Engineering Applications held at Selvam College of Technology
The Department of Science and Humanities, Selvam College of Technology, successfully organized a guest lecture on “Mathematical Transforms and Their Role in Engineering Applications” on 23.03.2026 for students during the academic year 2025–2026.
The objective of the lecture was to provide students with a clear understanding of mathematical transforms and their significance in solving real-world engineering problems. The session aimed to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications across various fields, including civil, electrical, electronics, and mechanical engineering.
The resource person, Dr. R. Brindha, Associate Professor, Velalar College of Engineering and Technology, delivered an insightful and engaging lecture. She explained the importance of transforms as powerful mathematical tools used to simplify complex differential equations and analyze engineering systems.
The lecture covered key topics such as Laplace Transform, Fourier Transform, and Z-Transform, along with their properties and applications. The speaker elaborated on the use of the Laplace Transform in circuit analysis and control systems, the Fourier Transform in signal processing and communication systems, and the Z-Transform in digital signal processing and discrete-time systems.
Special emphasis was given to real-time engineering applications, including system response analysis, vibration analysis in structures, heat transfer problems, and signal filtering. The session also highlighted how transforms help convert complex time-domain problems into simpler algebraic forms for easier analysis.
The lecture was interactive, with students actively participating and clarifying their doubts. Practical examples and problem-solving approaches enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the subject.
Overall, the session was highly informative and beneficial, enhancing students’ analytical skills, conceptual clarity, and appreciation of the role of mathematics in engineering applications. It also motivated them to apply mathematical concepts effectively in their academic and professional pursuits.
Tshe enthusiastic participation of students contributed to making the program a grand success.
